KUNSTVEREIN MITWELT i.G.

Under the Patronage of Dr. Sibylle Badstübner-Gröger, Art Historian

KUNSTVEREIN MITWELT

Art connects ideas, people, places, and the past, present and future.

Kunstverein Mitwelt promotes contemporary art as a vital force for social dialogue, cultural participation and sustainable transformation. We support artists, interdisciplinary projects and creative collaborations that open new perspectives on the relationship between people, nature and the built environment.

We develop and preserve spaces for art, music, dance and cultural education as places of encounter, exchange and collective creativity. We understand art as a social practice that strengthens democratic culture, connects communities and encourages collaboration for the common good.

By linking local initiatives with international perspectives, we foster dialogue across art, science, architecture, ecology and society. Through this exchange, innovative cultural projects emerge that explore new ways of living together.

Our Objective

  • Promote contemporary art and artistic research

  • Support artistic projects, performances and international collaborations

  • Develop and preserve spaces for art, music, dance and cultural education

  • Encourage interdisciplinary exchange between art, science, society, ecology and the built environment

  • Strengthen democracy, participation and the commons through artistic practice

  • Develop creative civic and community-oriented models for a sustainable shared world

MITWELT

What is “Mitwelt”?

Mitwelt is a German concept that describes the world we share.

Rather than seeing nature and society as something outside ourselves, Mitwelt understands humans, other living beings and the built and natural environment as interconnected and mutually shaping one another.

Kunstverein Mitwelt creates platforms where art, research and the public come together to imagine, discuss and actively shape our shared future.

Tanzsaal Tegel – Mitwelt Laboratory for Art and the Present

A place for art, movement, and new forms of coming together.
Here, space is not simply used, but collectively activated in a dialogue and unfolded.
Projects emerge that connect art, society, and everyday life.

What happens when art is not only observed, but experienced?
When a space is in constant transformation through people, ideas, and movement?

Tanzsaal Tegel is becoming a non-profit space where exactly this takes place.

How is space produced?
Through artistic intervention, sound, bodies, and encounter.

How is it temporarily transformed?
Through performances, installations, and open processes that continuously evolve and create atmosphere.

What kind of aesthetic practice underlies this?
A practice that understands art as a form of relation—between people, materials, and environment.

MITWELT
WHAT IS MITWELT?

A way of thinking in relations: from environment to co-existence.
Art as a mode of practice within a shifting social fabric.

Mitwelt means: we are part of the world we shape.

Kunstverein Mitwelt develops projects where art, research, and the public come together.
Tanzsaal Tegel becomes a laboratory for the present—a place to test new forms of thinking and acting.

Art is a practice of transformation.

Mitwelt as an artistic and social model of thought. Mitwelt is not a fixed state but a shifting space between practice, perception and relation.

IN BRIEF:

  • Art is a form of relational practice, not only an object.

  • Cooperation replaces mere participation with shared responsibility and expertise.

  • Places become laboratories where social and artistic processes emerge together.
